London’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, has warned the public that air pollution levels are “high” in the city. According to PTI, he has urged Londoners to exercise caution over the next days and forgo pointless motor trips.
The AQI website states that London’s air quality index was 58, which is considered moderate.
According to a BBC report, moderate air pollution has been present in London since Saturday as a result of the chilly and foggy weather.
Additionally, the mayor’s office intended to post pollution alert messages across the Transport for London (TfL) system. Additionally, towns and schools will be informed of the same.
In order to reduce hazardous air pollution in the city, Khan emphasized the necessity to expand London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).
As part of efforts to reduce the city’s air pollution, the ULEZ, which targets the most polluting vehicles with a daily surcharge, will be expanded throughout the city starting in August of this year.
Drivers must pay 12.50 pounds to enter the area within London’s north and south circular orbital roads under the plan.
According to Defra’s data, the UK’s AQI levels fall into four categories: low (0–3), moderate (4–6), high (7–9), and extremely high (10 and above).
London’s AQI score is one-third that of Delhi’s, which is deemed unhealthy for habitation.
The AQI level at Jahangirpuri at 10 p.m. was 194, which was deemed “unhealthy,” according to the AQI website. Additionally, Narela (170), Bawana (174), Punjabi Bagh (164), and other places were deemed unhealthy.
